KRITHI SETHU SARAVANAN

Krithi Sethu Saravanan has had a passion for music and dance from a very young age, and continues expanding her musical repertoire. She started learning ballet at the age of 2 and then went on to learn Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Karpagavalli Sai Sankar at the age of 6. She took a great interest in this ancient art form from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and her passion for it has only grown since then.

    Krithi never turned down an opportunity to perform on stage and has performed Bharatanatyam at many local cultural events such as Cary Diwali, Nuv Yug, ATA, TATA, TUTA, TCA, Arts for Dreams, Tamil Sangam, and at the Sri Venkateswara Temple of NC, several of which were fundraisers for various charitable causes. She has also been a part of Gurukrupa School of Dance’s thematic productions including Mahishasura Mardhini (2017), Venkatadri Vaibhavam (2018), Shambo Mahadeva (2019), and Krishnarpanam (2022). In 2021, Krithi had the honor of completing her Salangai Poojai.

      Beyond dance, Krithi is very passionate about music in general. She has been learning vocal Carnatic (Indian classical) music since the age of 5 under the guidance of Smt. Varuni Ravinder. She helped raise funds for many charities through performances at events organized by the North Carolina Youth Classical Arts for Charity (NCYCAC) and South Indian Fine Arts Academy (SIFAA). She has also been learning Carnatic violin from Smt. Seetha Ramakrishnan and Ranjani Ramakrishnan since 2018. Besides Carnatic music, she has also been learning Western classical music on the piano and the flute for several years. She has participated in and won multiple competitions organized by the Raleigh Area Flute Association (RAFA) and Young Artist Auditions (YAA).

        Krithi Sethu Saravanan is currently an 8th grader at Triangle Math and Science Academy of Cary. Apart from music and dance, Krithi is very interested in math and has participated in and won several math competitions at regional and national levels in both Elementary and Middle school. She is also an elected member of TMSA’s Middle School Student Council and the National Junior Honor Society, where she organized clothing drives, and other fun events for her school. Krithi is a proud sister of Jai Saravanan, a sophomore at North Carolina State University and proud daughter of Saravanan Arunachalam and Anita Sundaram. Even after her Arangetram, Krithi would like to continue pursuing her passion for music and dance while still figuring out what her other dreams are.
          Through her Arangetram, Krithi would like to raise money to support Aim for Seva, a U.S. based non-profit that is transforming the lives of children in rural India through its chatralaya, or free student homes, which provide a loving, nurturing environment and access to value-based education, quality health care, and life-enriching cultural, spiritual and recreational programming. Krithi requests all friends and families to join her in her support of Aim for Seva to provide a better world for all children.

          Nattuvangam

          Guru Smt. Karpagavalli Sai Sankar is the Founder and Director of Gurukrupa School of Indian Dance, located in Cary, North Carolina. Guru Smt. Karpagavalli started her long and illustrious teaching career of over 35 years at a very young age, by joining the dance faculty at one of the most reputed schools in Chennai - Padma Seshadari Bala Bhavan. She is also a senior teacher for dance at Global Indian Cultural Centre, Singapore. She choreographed many dance ballets, various classical, folk and international dance styles like Malay and Chinese dance, and won numerous laurels for the school. Since 2011, Smt. Karpagavalli has made a name for herself as a leading Bharatanatyam instructor in the Triangle area through her Gurukrupa School of Indian Dance.

          The foundation for Shri. Narayanan’s musical pursuits were laid in his early years, through his active participation in Margazhi season bhajans. He was persuaded by his friends to dedicate himself to learning Carnatic music formally. He acquired initial training from Shrimathi. Kalpana Venkat, a disciple of Shri. P.S Narayanaswamy. He is currently a disciple of Chitravina Shri P. Ganesh, of Carnatica Brothers fame. He started a music school, Sunaada Vidyaalaya, in 2007, to serve the aspiring students of the Richmond Metro area. With a penchant for musical compositions of Ilayaraja and MSV. he is also regularly featured in light music concerts featuring Tamizh film songs.

          Mridangam

          Ethirajan Ramanujan, has been learning Mridangam, a South Indian percussion instrument, since 1992/1993. Ethirajan had the initial training from Ramanathapuram Sri. M.N. Kandaswamy Pillai. Later, he had the initial and advanced training from Sri. Sivashankara Reddy (disciple of Sri. M.N.Kandaswamy Pillai). Currently he has the versatile training from Sangita Kalanidhi Sri. T.K. Murthy and Sri. Sethalapathy B Sivaraman. Ethirajan has a total of more than 2000 concerts to his list of concerts, all over India and Abroad. He has performed in many prestigious places in India. He has also won several awards and prizes in India.

          Violin

          Sri Ananda Nadayogi is trained in Carnatic violin and vocal by the legendary musician, Padmabhooshan Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman and his son Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri Lalgudi GJR Krishnan. Ananda is a graduate in Indian Music from the University of Madras. He has performed as an accompanist and a soloist in various programs collaborating with different genres across the globe. He has the credit of teaching Carnatic Violin and Vocal over a period of three decades in India, Middle East, Singapore and in the United States of America.

          Flute

          Partha is a much sought after flautist for South Indian dance performances. Under the tutelage of Guru V.K. Raman Partha has been expanding his musical repertoire for the past several years. As a flautist he has travelled across the United States and has performed in over 100 arangetrams. In addition to the flute Partha plays the mridangam, ghatam, khanjira and morsing. Having completed his senior exams as mridangist in Bengaluru under the tutelage of Sri SV Giridhar, he has performed in several concerts in India and US. Partha works as a Software Engineer and spends most of his spare time on the propagation of Indian music and looks for greater innovations in his art.
